The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SSAP-SDGs) Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire has task the SDGs stakeholders on the need for proper review of National Voluntary Report on the SDGs implementation. She made this known while addressing participant at the National Consultation on the National Voluntary Report held in Abuja.
According to her the United Nations has set up a global platform to facilitate periodic review on progress towards the 2030 agenda, adding that member states are required to voluntarily participate in the periodic global review on their national progress. The global platform is envisaged to be used as a global forum to foster partnership and inclusion among major groups, success recorded, lesson learnt and challenges being faced in the 2030 SDGs implementation agenda.
Princess Adejoke said the report is expected to reveal the degree to which the economic, social and environmental dimensions of development that have been integrated. She stressed that the national report will not only provide the basis for Nigeria in representation in new-York in July, 2017 but will offer actionable lessons that can be adopted by relevant stakeholders and collectively proffer solutions to the impediments that hamper progress, pointing that, at the Human Right Council in Geneva, member state track performance on agreed human right goals and norms, by way of Universal Peer Review Mechanism (UPM)
SSAP-SDGs particularly said the National Voluntary Report is expected to highlight the level of SDGs ownership at the national and sub-national levels in addition to assessing the extent of integration of the Agenda into our development framework.
Present at the occasion were representatives of the Minister of Foreign Affaires, United Nations, Economic Adviser to ECOWAS, Director General Budget, Private Sector advisory Group (PSAG), Statistician General of the Federation. Others were members of the Civil Society Organizations, the academia and other stakeholders.
