Nigeria has been described as the first country in Africa to move from the Millennium Development Goals to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); having made a lot of progress during the implementation of then MDGs in the last 15 years, Nigeria is set to finish the unfinished work of the MDGs.
The outgoing Secretary of Programmes (SOP) in the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (OSSAP-SDGs) Mr. Ochapa Ogenyi made this remarks, while briefing the incoming SOP, Mr. Waziri Laminu, a director from Office of the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sport. The briefing took place on 19th May, 2016, in the conference room of OSSAP-SDGs Abuja.
Mr. Ochapa who was grateful to God for the period he served in the office said, during his time, the MDGs “End Point Report” was put in place and presented at the United Nations General Assembly meeting, which is vital to the take off of the SDGs.
The new SOP solicited for the cooperation of all staff, to enable the SSAP, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire achieves the goals and vision of the Office. He said the task ahead is enormous and all hands must be on deck to achieve this global developmental plan, which is so dear in the heart of the President Muhammadu Buhari.
